Gib Crockett's cartoon from March 1967 pairs President Lyndon B. Johnson with South Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Cao Ky, and its caption, "Go 'way, boy, you bother me!", is a dialect dismissal with a demeaning racial history. The Washington Star ran it when Ky was leading the South Vietnamese government and American troop numbers were climbing steeply. The subject tags include patent medicines, which suggests Crockett framed the war effort as a traveling medicine show's sales pitch. Editorial cartoons of this period often used folksy stock figures like this to question official optimism about the war.
