The cover of this souvenir album takes the shape of a bean pot, a playful nod to Boston baked beans, with a color illustration of Faneuil Hall set into it. Louis Prang & Co., a Boston firm known for chromolithography, produced many such keepsakes for visitors to the city in the 1890s. Faneuil Hall, built in the 1740s as a public market and meeting place, was a favorite stop for tourists, and by the 1890s it had earned the nickname "Cradle of Liberty" from its association with colonial-era protest. Pairing a local dish with the city's landmark shows how souvenir makers tried to sum up Boston in a single object.
