Dated by its title, "1936, 18 de Julio," to the first anniversary of the military uprising against Spain's Second Republic, this color lithograph was issued in 1937 as part of the Republic's poster campaign. Its subject headings name soldiers and Nazis, reflecting the government side's effort to portray the conflict as a fight against foreign fascist intervention, since Germany and Italy supplied the Nationalist forces. Republican posters like this were pasted in public places to rally support, and they now serve as useful records of how the Republic presented the war to its own people.
