The title, "Falange os llama, ahora o nunca" ("The Falange calls you, now or never"), makes this lithograph a direct recruitment appeal rather than a general emblem of the movement. The Falange Española, a fascist-inspired party founded by José Antonio Primo de Rivera in 1933, used posters like this to draw volunteers after the Spanish Civil War began in July 1936. The Library of Congress dates the piece to between 1936 and 1939, and its soldier subject reflects the urgency of those years, when both Nationalist and Republican sides needed men for the front.
