Carinhall, the hunting estate Hermann Göring built in the Schorfheide forest near Templin, was named for his first wife, Carin, who was Swedish, which helps explain why this group of Swedish visitors appears in his personal photo album. The lakeside setting and the bathrobes worn by some of the figures suggest a relaxed afternoon rather than a formal occasion. Göring used the estate for hunting and entertaining, and his albums of such gatherings give historians a glimpse of the social life he cultivated there during the 1930s.
