A sepia print from 1875 shows an unidentified building caught mid-construction, an unusual view because the record does not say which structure it is. The fairground in Fairmount Park was being readied that year for the Centennial Exhibition, which opened in May 1876 to mark a century since the Declaration of Independence. Centennial Photo Co. documented the site's many halls and pavilions as they rose, and the image offers a glimpse of the labor behind an event that drew millions of visitors. The caption card's details are old and unverified, so the building's identity remains an open question.
