The Cincinnati Federal Symphonic Orchestra, a unit of the Federal Music Project, is the focus of this 1939 poster, which advertises concerts for young people. The Federal Music Project was one of the arts programs of the Works Progress Administration, created to put unemployed musicians back to work during the Great Depression and to bring live music to communities that rarely heard it. WPA posters like this one were often made by silkscreen, a technique that suited bold, flat areas of color and kept printing costs low. A date stamped on the back shows the sheet was processed in May 1939.
