This is a copy negative of pages 8 and 9 from a ten-page Boston edition of *Cock Robin*, the English nursery rhyme about a robin's killing and mourning funeral, here dated 1780. The rhyme had long circulated in England in cheap printed songbooks and chapbooks, and this Boston printing shows how the story traveled to colonial American readers in small, inexpensive booklets meant for children. Because only two interior pages survive in this record, the item is best read as a fragment of a common children's book of its day, one of the many small printed works that taught reading through familiar verse.
