Christmas morning, as the title and subject headings put it, is a stereograph card: two nearly identical photographs side by side that produce a three-dimensional image when viewed through a stereoscope. Published in Philadelphia around 1902 or 1903 by the Universal Photo Art Co., under C.H. Graves, it shows children with toys and adults, the familiar scene of holiday gift-opening. Stereo cards like this were a common parlor entertainment in the early 1900s, and the company's copyright and catalog number show that it was sold as one of a series. Scenes of domestic celebration such as this one offer a window onto how American families marked the season at the turn of the century.
