Children and toys are the focus of this cabinet card, which the Library of Congress catalogs under the title *Christmas morning*. The photographer, F.J. Boston, worked in the 1890s, when Christmas was settling into the family-centered holiday many Americans recognize today and mass-produced toys were becoming more affordable for middle-class households. The card was issued around 1896 by Kaufmann & Strauss Co., a New York firm of importers and publishers. Cabinet cards like this one, mounted on stiff cardboard about 4 by 6 inches, were often kept in family albums or displayed on parlor tables, so the picture was meant to be looked at again and again.
