A dated glass negative from October 15, 1924 pairs a man's name with a San Diego setting, though the title comes from data the National Photo Company wrote on the negative or its sleeve and has not been independently verified. The National Photo Company, a commercial photography firm based in Washington, D.C., produced large numbers of views and portraits of American cities and people in the early twentieth century. Its negatives later came to the Library of Congress as a gift in 1947. Viewers may notice streaks and blemishes on the glass, which come from the natural breakdown of the original coating over time.
