The east view of Santa Fe, New Mexico, is a stereograph, a pair of nearly identical photographs that a stereoscope fused into a single image with apparent depth. The card is credited to Henry Brown, though the record notes that this attribution comes from an old caption and has not been verified. Spanish colonists founded Santa Fe around 1610, and by the 1880s the arrival of the railroad was bringing American visitors and new building styles to its adobe streets. Cards like this one were a popular parlor entertainment of the period.
