Here Theodore Roosevelt appears in rough outdoor clothing, dressed for the trail rather than the executive office, and the caption places the scene in the West Divide. Roosevelt had spent years ranching and hunting in the Dakota Badlands, and he took pride in the rugged outdoor life he called the strenuous life. Issued by the H.C. White Company around 1905, this stereograph let viewers see the president as a sturdy outdoorsman through a pair of lenses. The caption data has not been verified, so the exact location and circumstances remain uncertain.
