Few theater posters of the 1890s state their message as bluntly as this one, whose caption offers a dollar for the novel to anyone who hurries with the message. The poster advertises *The War of Wealth*, a play credited to C.T. Dazey, the author best known for *In Old Kentucky*. It was printed in 1895 by the Strobridge Lithographing Company of Cincinnati and New York, a firm that produced many of the large, colorful posters that promoted touring productions in that era. Jacob Litt, the theatrical manager named on the sheet, relied on such posters because they were the main way to advertise a show before radio and film.
