Two named officers of the International Association of Firefighters, George J. Richardson and Fred W. Baer, are the subjects of this glass negative from the National Photo Company. The international union was founded in 1918 to bring professional firefighters together under one national body, and during the 1920s it worked on behalf of its members with city governments across the country. The National Photo Company, a Washington, D.C., studio active in the early twentieth century, recorded officials, organizations and events in the capital, and its collection later came to the Library of Congress. Expect some streaks and blemishes on the glass, the result of the original coatings aging over time.
