The poster asks a blunt question, "Is your home here?", above a map, and its answer is to "Defend it!" Its map format sets it apart from many recruiting posters of the period that relied on portraits or scenes of combat. Printed in color by Roberts & Leete in London and issued in 1915 by the Parliamentary Recruiting Committee, it belongs to the drive for voluntary enlistment during the early years of the First World War, when Britain was still raising its huge citizen army without conscription. The poster ties the abstract stakes of the war to the ground under a viewer's feet, which was a common appeal of the time.
