Oriental Park, the racetrack in Havana's Marianao district, is the setting for this color lithograph, which the Compañía Litográfica de la Habana printed around 1937. Its title, "Winter racing," points to the season when American and other visitors traveled south to Cuba's warm weather, races, and casino. Havana was a popular winter destination in the 1930s, and posters like this one were meant to draw travelers into that mix of sport, gambling, and resort leisure. Because it pairs horse racing with casino life, it shows how the island presented itself to foreign tourists in the years before the Second World War.
