This glass negative pairs Gen. Robert Lee Bullard with Col. William Weigel, a detail that sets it apart from the general portraits on this board. Bullard was a senior U.S. Army officer who led American divisions and corps in France during the First World War, so the picture likely comes from the period when the Army's officers were frequently photographed for the press. The record gives no date, and its title comes from caption cards that the Bain News Service, a Manhattan picture agency active from about 1905 into the 1920s, wrote on the negatives. Those titles were not always checked, so the names and the occasion are worth confirming before relying on them.
