The title sets this negative apart from others in the collection by naming seven officers: four lieutenants (House, Kelly, Byrd and Caughey), three captains (Shively, Maloney and Praether), and Colonel Thompson. The record gives no date, and the names come from caption cards that the Bain News Service wrote down without verification, so the identities should be treated as provisional. Bain News Service was a New York photo agency that supplied newspapers with pictures of people and events from about 1900 to the early 1930s, and its glass plates are often the only surviving record of a sitting or a group portrait.
