Sugar processing was among the largest industries in the Hawaiian Islands in the early twentieth century, and this glass negative records the bagging end of that work at a plantation mill. Workers are shown filling sacks with raw sugar, weighing them and sewing them shut, the final steps before the crop was shipped out of the islands. The National Photo Company made many views of Hawaiian industry during these years, often for promotional use, so the scene reflects how plantations presented their operations to the public. The title comes from the company's own data and has not been independently verified, and the negative shows some streaking from age on its coating.
