A path lined with rhododendron bushes leads through the woods at Mount Pocono, in the Pennsylvania hills, and this print preserves that scene in color. Around 1902, the Detroit Photographic Company produced it using photochrom, a process that combined a black-and-white photographic negative with hand-applied color stones and inks. The company's color views of resorts and scenic spots were sold as souvenirs and travel keepsakes, and the Poconos drew summer visitors from nearby cities who came by rail for cool mountain air. Notice how the shrubs frame the path and draw the eye deeper into the trees.
