This color poster, titled "Be a U.S. Marine!", pairs a recruiting message for the Marine Corps with the American flag. James Montgomery Flagg, the illustrator best known for the Uncle Sam "I Want You" poster, made it during the First World War. Like his other government work, it makes a direct appeal to young men to enlist. The Marine Corps grew quickly as the United States fought in Europe, and posters like this one were part of the effort to fill its ranks.
