Few posters from the WPA era address a household concern as directly as this one, which urges people to report every dog bite to health authorities. Made by the Ohio WPA Art Program in 1941 as a color silkscreen, it reflects public health campaigns of the period, when rabies was a real danger and a biting animal needed to be observed or tested. The Works Projects Administration employed artists to produce many such posters for government agencies, and screen printing allowed inexpensive, bold images to be posted in clinics, schools and town halls. A March 1941 date stamped on the back suggests the poster was circulated soon after it was printed.
