A woman sits side-saddle on a horse at a show in the Washington, D.C. area, the kind of equestrian event that drew city society and visitors from nearby country estates in the early twentieth century. The picture is one of many from the National Photo Company, a Washington commercial studio that photographed the city's streets, public life and social events between about 1909 and 1932.
