The lithograph shows the schooner yacht *Haze*, an 87-ton vessel built in New York by George Steers, the shipbuilder who designed the famous *America* that won the 1851 race around the Isle of Wight. Published by Currier & Ives around 1861, the print was drawn by Charles Parsons, a marine artist who often depicted American ships. Yachting was a fashionable pastime among New York's wealthy in this period, and Currier & Ives sold many such prints to a public eager to see the latest vessels.
