Three men stand unnamed in this 1922 glass negative, a detail that sets it apart from the many portraits on this board that carry identified sitters. The Library of Congress catalogued the image with a title devised by its own staff, so the subjects, their occupations and the exact occasion remain unknown. It belongs to the National Photo Company Collection, a large body of commercial photography from the early twentieth century, and it came to the Library as a 1947 gift from Herbert A. French. Viewers may notice streaks and blemishes on the surface, which come from the natural breakdown of the original emulsion coatings on glass plates.
