Keep mum, chum" warns against careless talk about troop movements and other wartime details, a theme common in home-front security campaigns of the early 1940s. William B. Finley designed it for the Federal Art Project of the Works Progress Administration. The record dates it to 1941, though a stamp on the front reads January 21, 1943. Its blunt, colloquial wording relied on everyday slang rather than official language to reach ordinary workers.
