Few posters in the Work Projects Administration collection point to a single event as directly as this one, which names the Garfield Park Conservatory on Chicago's West Side as its venue. The Federal Art Project sponsored the poster, and its color silkscreen process let artists produce bold, flat-color posters inexpensively for public events during the Depression. Flower shows at Chicago's public conservatories were a popular civic attraction in the 1930s, and posters like this one were meant to catch the eye of passersby. The name "Whitley" appears in the title line, but the record does not say whether it refers to a designer, an exhibitor or another participant.
