Two young players, identified in the record as Jack and Peggy Baker, are the focus of this glass negative, which the catalog ties to the family of Newton Diehl Baker. Baker served as Secretary of War under Woodrow Wilson from 1916 to 1921, and the negative dates to roughly 1918 to 1920, during his tenure. The National Photo Company, a Washington studio active in the early twentieth century, made the plate and documented many prominent families and public figures of the capital. The glass shows streaks and blemishes from the gradual breakdown of its original coating, a common flaw in negatives of this age.
