Filed among the tennis subjects of the National Photo Company Collection, Miss Majorie Wooden appears on a glass negative from a Washington, D.C., studio that recorded city life and public figures in the early twentieth century. The archive dates the plate to about 1925, a time when tennis was growing in popularity among American women and press photographers often made portraits of athletes. The title comes from data the company attached to the negative but has not been independently verified, so the sitter's identity should be read with that caution. Viewers may also notice streaks and blemishes across the plate, which the catalog attributes to natural deterioration of the original coating.
