Titled simply *Centennial America*, this print from around 1876 marks the nation's hundredth birthday, which Philadelphia celebrated that year with a large international exhibition in Fairmount Park. Printmakers of the period often turned the anniversary into allegory, presenting the country as a personified figure surrounded by symbols of progress and national pride. The catalog record lists a copyright deposit number and a possible publisher, Armstrong & Co., but that attribution is unverified, so the print's maker remains an open question for researchers.
