The lettering advertises *A Midnight Frolic*, the late-night entertainment staged on the roof of Broadway's New Amsterdam theater, where Florenz Ziegfeld presented a rooftop revue after his main Follies had let out. The "Miss New York Jr." title points to the revue's beauty-contest style showcases, which drew the same glamour-driven audiences as the Follies below. Posters like this were meant to sell an evening of lavish staging, costumes and showgirls, and they now serve as a record of how New York theater marketed itself in the early twentieth century.
