The caption card gives the span as 1776 to 1826, but the exposition commemorated the 150th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence and is generally called the Sesquicentennial, so the title's dates appear to be an error. Dan Smith signed this color poster, which was printed in Philadelphia in 1926 as one of the promotional designs meant to draw visitors to the fair on the League Island grounds in South Philadelphia. Fairs of that era often mixed civic pride with boosterism, pairing the city's revolutionary history with modern industry and commerce. The record is marked as unverified, so the attribution and printing details should be read with that caveat.
