A glass negative in the George Grantham Bain Collection shows the enclosed passenger cabin of a Zeppelin, the rigid airship built under Count Ferdinand von Zeppelin's direction. The Bain News Service, a New York photo agency, produced and captioned the negative, but its date is not recorded, and the title comes from agency data that has not been verified. Zeppelins carried paying passengers on short routes in Germany before World War I and later made transatlantic flights, so cabins like this one were designed to make long journeys by air feel comfortable.
