Made in Indianapolis in August 1908, this print shows a newsboy, one of the many boys who sold papers on the city's streets. The record attributes it to Lewis Hine based on its provenance, and the caption card and the album heading "Street trades" tie it to his work for the National Child Labor Committee. Hine's photographs of working children like this one helped build the case for laws that would keep boys out of such jobs. Selling newspapers was a common street occupation for boys at the time, often done before and after school.
