The Coolidges and Senator Charles Curtis of Kansas ride together in an open carriage on the way to the Capitol for Calvin Coolidge's inauguration to a full term as president. Coolidge had succeeded to the office in August 1923 after the death of Warren G. Harding, and he won election in his own right in 1924. Curtis, still a senator that day, was about to be sworn in as vice president, so the procession shows both men at a moment when their roles were changing. The National Photo Company, which documented many Washington events of the period, made the picture.
