This 1915 lithograph was made for a day of fundraising in Bourg-la-Reine, a town southwest of Paris, to support its local charitable organization. Signed by Henry Cheffer, it shows mothers and children, a subject that appeared often in French wartime appeals for families whose men were at the front. Printed during the first full year of the war, when many towns ran their own collections for relief, the sheet shows how civilian charity operated alongside the military effort. At roughly 75 by 98 centimeters, it was large enough to be pasted on street walls and noticed by passersby.
