Teamwork builds ships" was issued in 1917 by the Publications Section of the United States Shipping Board Emergency Fleet Corporation, the agency created that year to expand American merchant shipbuilding after the country entered the First World War. German submarine attacks had sunk large numbers of Allied merchant vessels, and the nation needed far more hulls than its yards could produce. The poster, a color lithograph by W. D. Stevens, was printed in Boston by Forbes, and its message asks workers to see shipbuilding as a shared effort rather than a series of separate trades.
