Few posters on this wall speak so directly to Algeria's part in the First World War. Printed in 1918 for the Compagnie Algérienne, it urges readers to subscribe to a French war loan, with the line that subscribing means victory and a sooner homecoming for the soldier. Such loans, known as *emprunts de guerre*, helped finance the war, and posters like this one were a standard way the government asked ordinary citizens, including families in Algeria whose men served in the French army, to lend their savings to the nation. Signed by L. Jonas, the color lithograph is worth noticing for its direct appeal to family loyalty.
