A portrait of Minna Bernays, the younger sister of Martha Bernays Freud, sets this print apart from the many images of the Freud circle held in the Sigmund Freud Archives. Minna spent long stretches of her life in the family's household, where she was a steady presence in daily affairs. She later joined the Freuds in their move to London after the German annexation of Austria in 1938, and she died there in 1941. The caption card gives no date for the print, so its exact age remains uncertain, though its subject ties it closely to the family's Vienna years.
