Roosevelt delivered this speech at Gardiner, Montana, the town at Yellowstone's north entrance, during his 1903 tour of the park. The "veritable wonderland" in the title captures the awe he expressed for the geysers, canyons and wildlife there. In Gardiner he urged that the park be left unspoiled for future generations, a call often cited as a turning point in federal protection of wild lands.
