Among the many holiday images on this board, this one is a Thanksgiving postcard built around an ear of corn, a motif that turned up often in early twentieth-century greetings. Such cards were printed in large numbers and mailed to family and friends during the late holiday season, when harvest imagery stood in for the abundance of the autumn table. The corn here reads as a symbol of the year's crop and of rural plenty, themes that shaped how Americans pictured the holiday. Looking closely at the color and lettering shows the lithographic methods common to the period's postcard trade.
