A crate label for Bob White brand cut green stringless beans is a small piece of commercial printing, meant to be pasted onto a wooden shipping crate and seen by buyers at a market or grocery. Crate labels like this were usually colorful lithographs, and growers used them to set their produce apart from the crates stacked beside it. Stringless varieties, which lost the tough fiber that ran along the pod, became popular in American gardens and commercial fields in the late 1800s, and their arrival made green beans far more appealing to cook. Green beans later became a fixture of the Thanksgiving table, which is why a label like this fits the holiday theme.
