Nurses and a doctor tend to wounded soldiers on a hospital ward in Japan in this stereograph, a view of care rather than combat. The Russo-Japanese War of 1904 to 1905, fought largely over Manchuria and Korea, produced heavy casualties, and Japanese military and Red Cross medical services had to treat many of the wounded at home. New York publisher Underwood & Underwood, which sold stereo views for home viewers, registered the image for copyright in November 1905, shortly before the war ended. The record does not name the hospital or the exact date of the scene.
