Built to guard the army's sprawling training grounds, these White triple combination engines carried a pump, a water tank and a chemical tank in a single vehicle. This 1918 print shows the trucks as part of the U.S. Government fleet assigned to protect cantonments and military camps against fire. The army raised huge wooden camps across the country during the First World War, and their densely packed barracks made fire a serious danger. The caption card tentatively places the scene at Newport News, Virginia, a shipbuilding center, but that location is unverified.
