This glass negative pairs the American industrialist and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie with Lord Weardale, the British Liberal politician whose title came by way of a peerage. The record gives no date, and its title is unverified, so the exact occasion is uncertain. Both men were prominent in Anglo-American public life in the early twentieth century, when Carnegie promoted international arbitration and peace, and the Bain News Service, a New York photo agency, was producing news pictures of such figures during those years.
