Two women marching together in a suffrage hike are the subject here, with Rosalie Jones named as one of them. Jones, who was known as "General" Jones, led a series of long walks in the early 1910s that carried the case for women's voting rights through small towns and cities in New York and beyond. The record gives no date, and the title comes from caption cards that Bain News Service wrote without verifying them, so the exact walk and the identity of the second woman remain uncertain. Still, the image belongs to a wider movement that used public marches and pageantry to win attention before the 19th Amendment was ratified in 1920.
