Rosalie Jones, the suffragist known as "General" Jones for leading marches for the vote, is pictured here with Mrs. J. Hardy Stubbs and Miss Ida Craft. The Bain News Service, a New York press agency, sent photographers to events and to people in the news, and its glass negatives capture much of the period's public life. The record gives no date, and the names come from unverified caption notes, so they are the firmest details we have. The picture dates from the years when women were campaigning hard for suffrage, which makes it a useful record of who was visible in that movement.
