Hon. Neil Primrose, a younger son of the 5th Earl of Rosebery, sat in the House of Commons as a Conservative member before the First World War. The Bain News Service, a New York photo agency, made this glass negative as part of its large run of portraits of public figures in the early 1900s. The record's title comes from the agency's own caption cards and has not been independently verified, so the sitter's identity should be checked against other sources. Primrose was killed in Palestine in 1917, and his portraits from this period are often studied as part of Bain's wider record of British and American political life.
