A reading room for blind patrons at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C., is the subject of this glass negative, which the record dates to about 1919 or 1920. The National Photo Company, a commercial studio that photographed the capital's buildings, institutions, and street life in the early twentieth century, made many images of this kind. Its title comes from information written on the negative or its sleeve and has not been independently verified. The faint streaks and blemishes on the glass come from the natural deterioration of its original coating, which is common in negatives of this age.
